Now, onto the newsletter.
While shooting some behind-the-scenes footage for my new album, my buddy Jon âJagsâ Nee and I decided to sit down and talk about the deeper side of creative entrepreneurship.
(Side note: creating things with friends is SO fun.)
|
During the interview, Jags asked me:
"What character type do you most relate to in your life, art, and business?"
My answer?
"The ones who find the courage to follow through, even when they donât feel ready."
To which Jags quickly (and correctly) pointed out that I'm obsessed with the idea of the "Hero's Journey" ⯠hence the title of my album.
See...
I believe EVERY ARTIST is on their own version of the Heroâs Journey.
Weâre called to make and share our art with the world, pulled by some invisible force far more powerful than ourselves that drives us to create.
But while a rare few can instantly embrace the muse and leap headfirst into adventure, the reality is that most of us refuse the call ⯠at least at first.
In the Heroâs Journey, this "Refusal of the Call" is overcome in one of two ways:
⢠ð The stakes escalate â things get worse until action becomes unavoidable.
⢠ð¢ A mentor appears â offering guidance, belief, and a push forward.
For you?
The "escalation" might look like burnout, a midlife crisis, or losing your job, while the "mentor" might be a coach, a role model, or even a friend offering the right words at the right time.
Either way...
The Hero is destined to answer their calling.
And in the same way, I'd like to challenge you this week:
ð¡ Whatâs something that deep down you know you need to start (or stop) doing in order to truly grow?
ð¡ When faced with problems, what part of your intuition can you stop pushing away and begin honoring?
ð¡ What exciting things are you constantly putting on hold, waiting for permission from someone else to explore?
ð¡ Where could you show up just 5% braver today?
If the idea of the Heroâs Journey resonates with you, Joseph Campbellâs The Hero with a Thousand Faces is a powerful read.
But most importantly:
Stop putting your adventure on hold. Be brave, and start answering your inner call.
Now, I'd like to hear directly from you.
Did today's newsletter resonate with you? If so, how?
Hit reply if you'd like to share â I read every response.
And if you're ready to commit to your music more powerfully (and publicly) than ever before, click here to join our community.
Now...
Go make some art. ð
