It's 11:14pm and I'm scared to hit "publish"
Hey again—and Happy Friday. 🙂
It's 11:14PM as I'm writing this one, and it's honestly one of the scariest "publish" buttons I've hit.
But in the spirit of practicing what I preach, it's got to be done.
I've never been fully clear online about some of the changes I've made in my business over the last 12 months—partially because I wasn't sure where my mentorship was headed, and partially because I was afraid of alienating people who have found my videos helpful.
But after those 12 months, going deeper into my own artistry while writing my new album and working closely with a handful of incredible students through my mentorship, I'm ready to finally speak to it:
I'm walking away from music tutorials for good.
Not because they're not useful—but because they no longer serve me, and they no longer serve the musicians I'm trying to help.
So many of the people I've worked with have echoed the overwhelm, confusion, and self-doubt they've experienced from being saturated with online educational content.
We're living in a time where we've got access to more free insights from masters of the craft than ever before...
... and yet the composers I speak are feeling more lost than ever.
We're all collectively losing our artistic voices.
→ We default to Google searches, ChatGPT, and Reddit to validate our ideas instead of inherently trusting them.
→ We isolate ourselves, waiting to "have it all figured out" before sharing our work with others... even the ones we say we trust.
→ We hide our imperfections, our confusion, and our messiness, constantly belittling our speed, skills, and tastes.
And I believe we're entering an artistic epidemic.
But I've discovered that the antidote to this epidemic is not another course, tutorial, or quick tip.
It's depth.
Personal, soft guidance back to our intuitions.
Supportive communities where we're safe to share our half-baked, crazy ideas.
Space and gentle curiosity to uncover the deeper aspects of what gets in our way.
And permission to start seeking the answers to artistry within ourselves instead of from others.
That's the kind of work I've been doing with composers for the last 12 months.
And that's the kind of work I intend on continuing.... because it works.
I've seen composers achieve unbelievable transformation through the work we do.
→ Creative over-planners learn to love chaos.
→ Artistic self-doubters learn to build their own criteria for what's "right".
→ Client-pleasers learn to put their needs first.
→ Self-proclaimed "craftsmen" learn to love the label of "artist" again.
→ Burnt-out professional composers reclaim sovereignty into their businesses.
And no—this kind of work doesn't happen overnight.
But when it's done, it's not just artistic growth.
It's life transformation.
So in short, yes: I'm moving on from music tutorials.
Because I've discovered that when you stop trying to learn from a screen, books, or courses, and start tapping into your heart and the hearts of good people around you...
... amazing things become possible.
Thank you all for your support, and I'm very excited to dive deeper into this chapter with you all.
