πŸŽ₯ Why I Made YouTube Videos for $7/Hour

πŸ’Ό finding work Aug 21, 2023

I've been making YouTube videos for over 15 years. I started my channel in 2006, beginning with piano covers and slowly shifting to educative content for composers.

So after all that time and effort, has YouTube finally paid off?

Well... yes and no.

On paper last year, I made less than $1900 in revenue from YouTube ads. At 1 video per week, with each video taking 5 hours, that's a grand total of $7/hour.

Ouch.

Many people would have quit by now, and understandably so. But I believe that making videos is about more than making money.

Sharing your passion with others excites other people about the things you love. And when people feel inspired by you, they can't help but thank you in some way.

My videos have helped me build relationships with VST companies, fellow composers, and yes--paid clients.

Building value is about playing the long game. It's about focusing on what you can give, not receive.

Whether you educate, entertain, or inspire, share your passion with others.

Then watch them share their gratitude with you.
