πŸ—£οΈ How To Speak To Clients

πŸ’¬ communication May 02, 2023

If you’re just getting started as a media composer, you’ve probably been doing it alone so far.

Maybe you’ve scored some movie clips with the music stripped out. Maybe you haven’t written music to picture at all.

And you may not have ever received feedback from a client. 😰

Revisions and feedback can be daunting. But survival as a media composer is based on your willingness to collaborate with others and be a team player.

Check out this video from 2021 to see how I speak to my clients:

A few things to note… πŸ“

  • I try to emit calm, positive energy, to make clients feel comfortable in a potentially uncomfortable dialogue
  • I mirror the language of my client, making sure they feel heard and respected
  • I communicate with emotional honesty, addressing feelings of worry, relief, or excitement so clients feel they can trust me
  • I position myself as a team player, working through challenges together instead of digging my heels

Almost all challenges with clients can be resolved with open, honest, collaborative communication. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind, but don’t be afraid to change your mind either.

(If you’re dealing with a challenging client right now, consider booking a 30-minute session with me to discuss some strategies to help you resolve those difficulties.)
