Biography

Zach Heyde (b. 1993) is a composer, pianist, & educator based in Nashville, TN. His music draws from artists like Thomas Newman and Ólafur Arnalds, blending delicate piano & strings with lush electronics and ambience.

Zach showed musical interest at a young age, beginning piano lessons at age 7 and composing annually for the Young Composers Concert in Darien, CT. After graduating from Darien High School, Zach entered The Hartt School of Music in 2011, studying composition & jazz piano while actively collaborating with his classmates. While at Hartt, Zach wrote music for film, theater, and choir; his 2012 choral work My Heart O God is Steadfast received its premiere in St. Mark’s & St. Peter’s Basilicas in Rome.

It was at Hartt that Heyde met longtime collaborator, composer/pianist Frank Tedesco. In 2013, Alfred Music Publishing hired the duo as part-time arrangers after discovering their arrangement of Sleigh Ride. Frank & Zach later formed their own publishing company, Stems Up Sound, as well as a joint YouTube channel that now has over 40k subscribers.

Aside from his work as a composer, Zach performs actively as a pianist for sessions and gigs. He joined hip-hop/soul band Broca’s Area in 2014, performing on their debut album Clarity; the CT Music Awards awarded the group “Best R&B/Soul Funk” & “Best New Band” of 2015. Zach can also be heard on John Paris Hare’s self-titled EP, and performed throughout New England with singer-songwriter Griffin Anthony throughout 2015-2016.

After his graduation from Hartt, Heyde served as a music educator for the Darien Arts Center & Crescendo Music, hosting an annual composition camp for aspiring young composers. He relocated to Nashville in September 2016, and since then has been active as a YouTuber and composer. His newest EP, Spectral, is scheduled for release this February.
